Unfortunately, we are currently facing a major challenge as our solar-powered water pump has failed after six years of operation. This happened almost exactly on our Water Anniversary on February 18, when we traditionally give away water to the community for free for a week. After an examination by Drilling for Life, it turned out that the control unit is defective and the repair costs are as high as those for a new purchase.
This setback feels like we are back at the beginning, 10 years ago, when we had no access to water and transported water from nearby ponds in canisters with a donkey to Maua Villa. Since the donkey was sold many years ago, water is now supplied by ox cart. Our team is working hard to ensure that despite the lack of direct water access, the harvest and all plants do not dry out. The price for the urgently needed new solar water pump, including new installation and all associated costs, is €2,050.
