Maua Villa Children’s Home is located in Kivingoni, Yatta Sub-County, Kenya, and is the original and central project of our association. The home was established alongside the founding of Pamoja Africa e. V. and the purchase of the land in 2014. Since breaking ground, we – the team at Pamoja Africa – have been supporting Maua Villa and our local partner organization, the Eastern Plateau Child Support Program (EPCSP) on a voluntary basis through knowledge sharing, financial and material donations, and strategic guidance.
Currently, 22 children live at Maua Villa – including three children of staff members. Nine of them attend secondary school, most of which are boarding schools, meaning they return to Maua Villa only during school holidays. The younger kids go to a nearby public primary school that’s within walking distance. Curious why education is the key to a better future for our children – and how your donations make it possible? Check out our Secondary School page.
Each child at Maua Villa has their own story. Many have lost one or both parents, and extended family members often cannot support them financially. Some still have one parent but face challenges like illness or extreme poverty that prevent them from being cared for at home. Others have experienced domestic violence and were removed from dangerous family environments.
Even though many of the kids come from difficult backgrounds, we prioritize maintaining contact with their families. It’s essential for their sense of identity and personal growth. When needed, we support the children with therapy and offer educational support to families. Two to three times a year, the children are able to visit their relatives. By strengthening family structures, we aim to prepare the children for possible reintegration in the long term.
Our long-term vision is to make Maua Villa Children’s Home largely self-sustaining and financially independent. To get there, we’re helping to build the necessary infrastructure and providing training for the team. This way, we ensure professional, independent operations and lay the groundwork for long-term financial stability.
One ongoing challenge, however, is funding secondary school fees. These costs are high and keep rising as more of our children grow up and move on to secondary education. That’s why we’ve excluded these costs from our sustainability goals and created a dedicated fundraising campaign for education.
We use all donations efficiently and with a clear purpose – to create the greatest possible impact for the children. Ongoing costs at Maua Villa include:
We also carry out larger projects that focus on improving quality of life and learning opportunities. In the past, these have included:
100% of all donations go directly to where they’re needed most. Our association’s operating costs are covered by membership fees, ensuring that your donation is used fully for its intended purpose.
The ongoing costs listed above are covered thanks to our Maua Villa sponsors. Depending on the sponsorship model, you can choose to contribute a fixed monthly amount or donate an amount of your choice – helping us plan better and provide more stability.
Sponsorships can be canceled anytime, with no notice period.
With a Maua Villa sponsorship, you help cover the running costs of the children’s home. This is a project-based sponsorship with a fixed monthly contribution of €30. That means all children at Maua Villa benefit equally. We ensure fair and transparent distribution, as every child receives the same level of care, support, and attention regardless of the number of sponsorships.
Note: No new Maua Villa sponsorships are needed at the moment, as no more children are currently being accepted.
With a Team Sponsorship, you support the staff of our children’s home. Your chosen contribution goes into a shared fund that covers the salaries of team members who help shape everyday life at Maua Villa – such as the Director (Meshack), the Center Manager (Felistus), and the Social Worker (Charles).
The wages of other staff members – including the housemother, farm workers, night guards, teachers, and the laundry lady – are covered through the Maua Villa Sponsorship.
By becoming a Team Sponsor, you help provide a stable income for those who take on daily responsibilities at Maua Villa – enabling them to support their families and pay school fees for their own children.
The current shortfall is needed to cover the outstanding portion of the salary for our newly hired social worker, Charles.
Note: Pick any amount that works for you. As a reference, €30/month can have a real impact.
This sponsorship makes it possible for our older children to attend secondary school – a crucial step toward building their future. Since most schools are boarding schools, the sponsorship covers tuition, accommodation, uniforms, school supplies, and all other related costs. Here you can find more information about the Secondary School .
Note: You are free to choose the amount. Not sure where to start? With €69/month, you can support a child’s full year of secondary education.
